I agree with the opening premise in The Press editorial of Nov. 14, "There is no way for Grand Rapids to shear $9 million from this year's city budget and $27 million from 2010-2011 without inflicting serious pain." It is with the balance of the editorial that I wish to dissent.

That turkey for Thanksgiving is likely a well-traveled bird. Decades ago, turkeys mostly were bred, hatched and raised on a local farm and shipped to a nearby butcher or supermarket for Thanksgiving dinner.
